Self-development refers to the commitment of a person to think and decide for oneself. This implies the discovery of new skills and the repetition of actions to improve habits and personal skills on a daily basis.
Individuals committed to self-development must have a clear vision about their goal and must be attentive to all the opportunities that come their way. They need to have a strategic life plan and act creatively and innovatively to achieve all of their goals.
Self-development can be achieved with work, self-criticism, studies and updating of knowledge. This involves an important sense of responsibility and a proactive and positive attitude all the while.
To achieve “self-development”, “self-knowledge” is key. This means knowing and recognizing oneself, as well as committing to a reflective process through which one acquires a notion of their own strengths and areas for improvement. This will allow them to take advantage of opportunities and be prepared for the challenges that will be presented to them in life.
Self-development works with the driving force that gives an individual the possibility of building himself permanently and to achieve this it is necessary to commit to the objectives set.
There are two types of objectives: 1) Intrinsic: Those that are pursued because they are satisfactory and valuable internally for the person, since they allow them to be creative, develop emotional maturity and contribute to the community. 2) Extrinsic: Those that reflect more what others approve or desire of the person. The effort to achieve such goals, for superficial reasons, can cause stress, guilt, shame and frustration.
At the moment that people work on these objectives rooted in their own interests and the deepest core values of the person, they will achieve their personal growth. This is because at that moment they manage to develop their potential as a human being. Manifesting a correct attitude, learning more about their strengths, tuning in to their passion, being in touch with their purpose and developing skills will aid in the achievement of their personal growth.
People who strive to achieve something that is important to them find more happiness than those who do not have strong dreams or aspirations. The process of working on a specific objective is very important to achieve well-being. For this reason it is necessary to develop knowledge, have a positive attitude, be attentive to opportunities and take action. It is then that personal growth and satisfaction will be achieved.
